I thought I would kick things off with the woman who not only began my passion for nineteenth century […] The Suffragettes wanted the right for women to vote. The move for women to have the vote had really started in 1897 when Millicent Fawcett founded the National Union of Women’s Suffrage. “Suffrage” means the right to vote and that is what women wanted – hence its inclusion in Fawcett’s title.

Analys av filmen Suffragette. När vi läste om industrialiseringen och hur olika politiska rörelser växte fram, så valde vi att visa filmen Suffragette som handlar om den kvinnliga rösträttsrörelsen i England. Det är inte en film som ungdomar brukar välja självmant men när de väl får se den så gillar de den. As a historian, though, there were some aspects of the storytelling that I found concerning. The film was pitched as an introduction to the story of the suffragettes. En banbrytande journalist som med mod och äventyrslusta tog sig an de mest utmanande uppdragen.
